What are the characteristics of PWM dimming? May 06, 2022

PWM dimming method is one of the commonly used LED power dimming technologies at present. This dimming technology is also called pulse width modulation technology, which is a traditional dimming method. Its working principle is to use simple digital pulses to repeatedly switch the LED driver. The system only needs to provide digital pulses with different width and narrowness to simply change the output current, thereby adjusting the brightness of the LED. The advantage of PWM dimming led driver is that it can provide high-quality white light, as well as simple application and high efficiency.

 


 

 

PWM dimming also has some disadvantages in the application process. When the driver performs PWM dimming, if the frequency of the PWM signal falls between 200Hz and 20kHz, the inductance and output capacitor around the white LED driver will produce a sound that can be heard by the human ear. See the noise, so the design should avoid using the low frequency band below 20kHz.
