Non-dimmable LED Driver
What is a LED driver used for? May. 28,2019

Due to the increased use of energy regulations, most people are now familiar with the life and energy savings associated with LEDs or light-emitting diodes. However, many people do not know that these light sources require a special device to operate, that is, the LED driver. LED drivers (also known as LED power supplies) are similar to ballasts for fluorescent lamps and transformers for low voltage bulbs. They provide the power needed by the LEDs to achieve their best performance and functionality.

There are two purposes for using an LED driver.

1. LED is designed for low voltage (12-24V) DC. However, most places offer higher voltages led driver (120-277 V), AC. The LED driver rectifies the high voltage AC to a low voltage DC.

2. The LED driver protects the LED from voltage and current fluctuations. As the voltage changes, the current supplied to the LED may change. The light output of the LED is proportional to its current supply and the LED is operated in a specific current range (in amps). Therefore, due to the high temperature inside the LED, an excessively large or too small current will cause the light output to change or decrease more quickly.

In short, the LED driver converts the high voltage AC to a low voltage DC. It also keeps the voltage and current flowing through the led power supply circuit at a nominal level.
